MISSION STATEMENT

The Mayfair Community Development Corporation (MCDC) is dedicated to promoting the Mayfair community as a "great place to live and work". It is the goal of the MCDC to develop and implement programs that encourage commercial & cultural partnerships, promote the education of the workforce, create employment opportunities and provide social services to the senior population. As opportunities arise the MCDC will also be active in the rehabilitation of residential and commercial properties. The MCDC will be a part of the community and collaborate with other community organizations to attract programs and services that will enhance the community.

Many of Mayfair’s more than 27,000 residents (16,000 homes) are members of the second, third, even fourth generation of a family that proudly calls this community “home.” People tend to stay in Mayfair because of their easy access to good jobs, low crime rates, stable neighborhood institutions such as schools, churches, and businesses, and other area attractions. Newcomers choose this area for the very same reasons. The neighborhood of Mayfair has a solid middle-income economic base with a median household income of $43,249. This figure is significantly higher than the Philadelphia citywide average salary of $31,000. Mayfair residents in the workforce contribute to both white and blue-collar professions. Married couples occupy over 60% of the households in Mayfair, compared to the Philadelphia citywide rate of 46%. More than 75% of those growing up in this community graduate from high school.  50% of the high school graduates go on to college.  The largest portion of Mayfair’s residents is the group who has lived there the longest. 21% of this community is comprised of senior citizens; Philadelphia’s citywide rate of seniors is 14%.  Other facts: 26% of our population under 19 years of age; fewer households are headed by women in Mayfair (13%) than rest of city (23%); population change over the past 20 years is -0.08% (city is -4.80%),  home ownership is 78.6% (city is 59.3%).
