Senior Program – The CDC currently has a full time senior citizen advocate that supports all senior programs sponsored by the CDC. The senior advocate manages over a dozen programs during the day at the center and several in the early evenings. These programs include (but are not limited to): walking classes, movies, box lunches and board games, Tai Chi, self-defense classes, computer classes for all levels, men’s 60 and over softball, arts and crafts, home improvement classes, and more. The senior program also sponsors special events such as Retirement in Place classes, book exchanges, safety “game show”, summer concerts, and pinochle tournaments.
Arts & Cultural Programs – In partnership with the Philadelphia Department of Recreation, the CDC conducts a Follies show and a play during the year, one in the summer and one in the fall. We also team with Mural Arts and hold a nine week mural arts program that ends with a project that can be used in one of the properties owned and operated by the CDC.
The Center has been a beehive of diverse activities ranging from sports and senior activities, computer and guitar lessons, dance and art classes. We have made a solid effort to continually broaden our spectrum of activities and classes to offer.
With our first year behind us we have been able to work out most of our kinks and will be looking to move full steam ahead. As we move forward in 2007 we will be making a solid effort to reach out to more seniors, as well as find ways to involve more Mayfair youth in activities which will either keep them off the streets or giving back to the neighborhood via community service. We at the JMPCC and MCDC appreciate your constant support. If you would like to get more involved at the JMPCC, or need any information about the groups who use the facility, please call our office at 215-331-7120 or email us at lindav@mayfaircdc.org
